Fiji Beaches

While a trip to Fiji can be quite adventurous and adrenaline-filled, many holiday-seekers head to the islands for nothing but a week or two of rest and relaxation. They couldn’t have made a better choice! Fiji’s beaches are exquisite, and with 333 islands, you’ll certainly have your choice…including small secluded beaches that are only accessible by boat or busier beaches that attract locals and boast plenty of fun in the sun.

Choosing a beach will largely depend on which islands you visit, what sort of experience you’re hoping to enjoy, or how willing you are to wander off-the-beaten-track.

Best Fijian Beaches

The Coral Coast – Located on the main island of Viti Levu, the Coral Coast of Fiji was one of the first areas to develop a tourist infrastructure. The beaches here are stunning and accommodations cover a wide variety of budgets. Korotogo, for example, attracts locals and those traveling on a budget, but, nonetheless, it’s certainly charming; with shops, cafes, and other amenities you’d expect from a beach town. Travel further south and you’ll find more luxury accommodations on well-maintained white sand beaches.

Vatulele – If you can afford to stay at the luxury resort located on this island – just off the coast of Viti Levu – you’ll be wowed by the pristine beach and the magnificent sunsets.

Mamanuca – This island group, visible from the west coast of the main island, is home to some of the island nation’s finest beaches. They’re always kept clean and free of debris and the waters around this island group are excellent for diving. Consider a stop at Mana Island, which has two distinctly different beach atmospheres. The beach on the north side is very quiet and subdued while the one near the local resort is often crowded but perfect for those looking for that sort of experience. The longest sandy beach can be found on Mamanuca’s Tokoriki Island.

Northern Islands – One of the largest islands in this group is Taveuni, which is a good place for diving but not such a prime location for beaches. The same can be said about Vanua Levu. Instead, visit the smaller islands of the northern group, including Qamea, Laucala, and Matangi. These tend to be fairly secluded.

Yasawa – The island of Yasawa is often touted as having the most magnificent beaches in Fiji. They are long with baby powder-like white sand and stunning blue-green lagoons that are perfect for swimming or snorkeling. (If you can afford the Yasawa Island Resort, you’ll be in heaven!) Other Yasawa islands beaches that are worth a visit include those on Tavewa, Nanuya Levu and Nanuya Lailai; very typically South Pacific with swaying palms and clear turquoise waters. The beach on the island of Vomo encircles nearly the whole island.

Southern Islands – If you’re looking for seclusion, this is the island group for you. Check out Nooki Nooki Island for the ultimate in privacy. Yanuca Island also boasts a few nice beaches where the surfing is especially good.

Rotuma – Though it’s a bit of a struggle to get to Rotuma and there are no hotels – only homestays in native villages – the beaches here are worth the trip if you have a bit of adventure in your soul. The proximity of the beaches to the villages makes them all the more charming. Of the dozen or so beaches located here, Vaioa, Juju, Fapufa, and Losa receive the highest praise from Fiji fanatics.

Lau and Lomaiviti – These two remote island groups boast a few nice beaches but they probably aren’t worth the trouble it takes to get there to enjoy them. If you’re staying in either island group, however, you’ll find a few excellent ones, especially at the resorts.
